Senate President Tom Eaton appointed the task force to study laws on the issue and recommend legislation for next year. Eaton wants to guarantee that New Hampshire respects private-property rights from overreaching, well-intentioned municipalities.
Eaton appointed the task force after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that local governments can use eminent domain to take property from private citizens for private development that benefits a town economically.
Traditionally, governments take property for public works projects, such as roads.
