General Assembly votes to limit eminent domain: WIS-TV10 (Columbia SC), 6/15/06

The [South Carolina] General Assembly has passed legislation protecting property owners.

In a statement Thursday, Governor Mark Sanford said he was happy the House and Senate passed an amendment to eminent domain legislation. The amendment was passed Wednesday.

The legislation limits the power of the government to condemn and take property.

The proposal would require a change to the state constitution. It will go on the ballot in November.
